Buffer alternatives: other schedulers, and where LinkIntel fits for X writers
Buffer is a broad scheduler: it lists X and 11 other services, a Free plan and a Team plan with approvals. If you need that, the real alternatives are other schedulers, and this page names them. LinkIntel is not one. It is the alternative for X writers who draft with an AI assistant and want that assistant to start from their own results.
In short: If you need to schedule, pick another scheduler: Typefully, Tweet Hunter, OpenTweet or Fedica for X, each below. LinkIntel is the Buffer alternative only for a narrower job: X writers who draft in Claude or ChatGPT and want it to read their own X results, X's ranking weights and references they chose. Keep Buffer for the queue, other networks and teams.
Why people look for a Buffer alternative
Full disclosure: I make LinkIntel, so I'm biased. Buffer is a good tool and its Free plan is generous, so I will say where it stops. The Free plan covers 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel, one threaded post, and 30 days of Insights history. Paid plans are priced per channel: Essentials is $5 a month per channel billed yearly ($6 monthly) and Team is $10 ($12 monthly), so a few channels add up.
If you only post on X, you are paying for a tool built to cover 12 services. An X-focused scheduler is a reasonable reason to look around. So is wanting a tool with X analytics you can read without limits on history, or one with a different editor.
A third reason is the assistant. Buffer's MCP server can pull your post analytics, so it already covers part of that. What its pages do not mention is X's ranking weights or stored reference posts with source links, which is what LinkIntel adds.
What to look for in an alternative
Decide first whether you need a scheduler. If you do, compare schedulers on the networks you use, the free plan, team approvals and price. Buffer is strong on all four, and the alternatives below win only on narrower points: an X-only focus, Tweet Hunter's automation, OpenTweet's posting through an assistant, Fedica's audience analytics.
If you already schedule somewhere and mostly want better drafts, the question changes to what your assistant can see. LinkIntel gives Claude, ChatGPT or another MCP client your own recent original posts and metrics, X's open-source ranking weights, and the public posts you chose as references, each with its source.
Then count people and networks. Buffer's Team plan has unlimited users, access levels and approval workflows. LinkIntel is built around one person's own X account, so it is not a team tool.
Trying LinkIntel alongside Buffer
There is nothing to migrate. Connect X to LinkIntel and it reads your recent original posts and their metrics once a day from then on, read-only. Draft in your assistant with LinkIntel connected, then schedule the text in Buffer.
You can connect Buffer's MCP server to the same assistant too, if you want it to schedule from there. LinkIntel costs $39 USD a month with no free trial, and there is a full refund within 7 days of your first payment. Buffer's Free plan costs nothing, so LinkIntel is an addition to it, not a way to save money.

Consider switching if
- You only post on X and want a scheduler built for it, such as Typefully, Tweet Hunter or OpenTweet.
- You draft in Claude or ChatGPT and want it to read your own X results and X's ranking weights: add LinkIntel.
- You want references you choose stored with source links and cited in drafts.
- You want read-only access, so nothing posts, replies or DMs from your account.
Stay with Buffer if
- You post to several networks: Buffer lists X and 11 other services, and LinkIntel is X only.
- You want a free plan: Buffer's covers 3 channels, with an AI Assistant included.
- You need a team with approvals and access levels, which Buffer's Team plan has and LinkIntel does not.
- You want your assistant to schedule posts through MCP. Buffer's can; LinkIntel's cannot.
- Price decides it: Buffer is $0 to $6 per channel a month, against LinkIntel's $39.
Questions
Common questions
- What are the best Buffer alternatives for X?
- For scheduling, other schedulers: Typefully, Tweet Hunter, OpenTweet and Fedica all list X, and each has its own page here. LinkIntel is not a scheduler. It is an add-on for X writers who draft with an AI assistant and want it to read their own results.
- Is LinkIntel a Buffer alternative?
- Only for a narrow job. It gives your assistant your own X results, X's ranking weights and your chosen references, read-only. It cannot schedule, so keep Buffer or another scheduler for the queue.
- Does Buffer's MCP server give my assistant my own X results?
- It can pull post analytics. Buffer's MCP guide says its tools take includeMetrics and there is a get_aggregated_post_metrics tool, with metrics refreshed once a day. Reach, impressions and engagement rate appear only when every channel in the filter supports them, so check that for X. LinkIntel is not the only MCP server that reads your own results.
- How much do Buffer and LinkIntel cost?
- On its pricing page on 2026-10-15, Buffer listed a Free plan for 3 channels, Essentials at $5 a month per channel billed yearly and Team at $10, with a 14-day free trial on paid plans; monthly billing is $6 and $12 per channel.
