LinkIntel vs Buffer
Buffer is a scheduler for X and 11 other services, with a Free plan, an AI Assistant and an MCP server that can schedule and read post analytics. LinkIntel is a read-only MCP server that adds X's ranking weights and references you chose. This page says where Buffer is the better tool, which is most of what a posting tool does.
In short: Buffer is the better tool for scheduling, several networks, teams and price, and its MCP server can read your post analytics too. LinkIntel cannot schedule or post. It adds X's open-source ranking weights read daily, references you chose with source links, daily snapshots of your own posts, and read-only access.

Where Buffer is better
Full disclosure: I make LinkIntel, so I'm biased. Buffer wins on most of what a posting tool does. It schedules text, threads, images, GIF, video, reposts and quotes to X, crossposts to other networks, and lists 11 other services. Its Free plan covers 3 channels, with an AI Assistant on every plan and unlimited credits.
Its Team plan has unlimited users, access levels and content approval workflows, and its pricing is per channel, which suits agencies. LinkIntel is built around one person's own X account and has no team features.
On price, Buffer has a Free plan, and paid plans are $5 or $6 per channel a month on Essentials and $10 or $12 on Team, depending on yearly or monthly billing, with a 14-day free trial. LinkIntel is $39 USD a month.
Buffer's MCP and LinkIntel's MCP server
Buffer's MCP server lets an assistant read your channels, browse your queue and drafts, schedule and edit posts, capture ideas and pull post analytics. It uses an API key as a bearer token, works with Claude, ChatGPT and other clients, and is available on the Free plan within its API limits of 3,000 requests a month.
So Buffer's MCP can show your assistant your own results as well as schedule posts, and LinkIntel is not the only one that does that. Buffer says metrics refresh once a day, and that reach, impressions and engagement rate appear only when every channel in the filter supports them. Its docs do not say whether that holds for X, so check before relying on it.
What LinkIntel adds
LinkIntel reads X's open-source ranking weights every day with a commit link for each value. Buffer's pages do not mention them. The weights describe what X's ranker rewards, not how many views a post will get, and they are free to read at /x-algorithm.
You also choose the public X posts your assistant draws on, stored with source links and cited in drafts, and LinkIntel keeps a daily snapshot record of your own posts. It is read-only by design: nothing can post, reply or DM from your account, which is the opposite of a scheduler's job.
Choose LinkIntel if
- You write posts with Claude, ChatGPT or another MCP assistant and want X's ranking weights, read daily with commit links, in front of it.
- You want to pick the reference posts your assistant draws on, stored with source links.
- You want a daily record of your own posts kept as snapshots.
- You want read-only access, so nothing posts, replies or DMs from your account.
- You already schedule in Buffer or elsewhere and want to add evidence to the drafts.
Choose Buffer if
- You need to schedule or publish. LinkIntel cannot, so Buffer, or another scheduler, is the tool.
- You post to more than X: Buffer lists X and 11 other services, and LinkIntel is X only.
- You want a free plan: Buffer's covers 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel and an AI Assistant.
- You need a team: Buffer's Team plan has unlimited users, access levels and approval workflows.
- You want an analytics dashboard with reports: Buffer lists X analytics with best days and types to post, top hashtags and exportable reports.
- You want your assistant to schedule posts and read analytics through one MCP server, even on the Free plan.
- You manage several X profiles, or clients, and want per-channel pricing.
Questions
Common questions
- Buffer vs LinkIntel: which should I choose?
- If you need to schedule, Buffer, and it has a Free plan. If you already schedule and want your drafting assistant to read your own X results, X's ranking weights and references you chose, add LinkIntel. They fit together, and LinkIntel is not a replacement for Buffer.
- Does Buffer's MCP server already give my assistant my X results?
- It can pull post analytics, including through its Free plan within API limits. LinkIntel is not the only MCP server that reads your own results. What Buffer's pages do not mention is X's ranking weights or stored references with source links.
- Can I use LinkIntel and Buffer together?
- Yes. Draft in your assistant with LinkIntel connected, then schedule in Buffer, or connect Buffer's MCP to the same assistant. LinkIntel is read-only, so it never touches your queue.
LinkIntel is $39 USD a month, with no free trial and a full refund within 7 days of your first payment. It reads your X results and never publishes.
